To participants and guests of the 3rd scientific memorial session
“Energy and Environmental Security in the World” in honor of Sir Joseph Rotblat
Stavropol Region and the Karachaevo-Cherkessian Republic, the North Caucasus, Russia
September 16-20, 2011
On behalf of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, we send warm congratulations and thanks to the Russian Pugwash Committee under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences and its co-sponsors for organizing this 3rd memorial session “Energy and Environmental Security in the World” in honor of Sir Joseph Rotblat, Nobel Laureate and co-founder of the Pugwash Conferences.
It is our pleasure to note that current 3rd Rotblat memorial session is organized as a training program for young specialists and scientists from Russia and the CIS countries. As Joseph Rotblat once wrote, “We scientists, young and old, must nurture a vision of a better world in the next century, a world without war, a society based on care and equity, a community that will protect the environment. And we should make it our task to turn this vision into reality." We send you best wishes as you seek to move forward this important legacy.
The current international momentum toward a secure world is especially gratifying to those of us in Pugwash who have been supporting this goal, so articulately expressed by Sir Joseph as both desirable and feasible, for so many years. There is much work yet to be done, however, and your involvement will be crucial.
We wish you a most successful event.
Ambassador Jayantha Dhanapala, Pugwash President
Professor Paolo Cotta-Ramusino, Pugwash Secretary General |
